Treat alcohol substance use disorders Naltrexone Naltrexone treats opioid used disorders and alcohol use disorders. It is a pill form and can also be injected in liquid form. 50 mg once a day or injected 350mg once a month intramuscular. One of the benefits of taking this medication is that it blocks the euphoric effects and feelings of intoxication. It allows people to reduce their drinking habits so that they can remain in treatment and avoid relapse. The only risks of this medication are the side effects it has on the body. It is encouraged to seek a health care provider for liver injury, injection site reaction or allergic pneumonia. This medication is administered with the goal of preventing relapse. If the medication is administered for more than three months then therapy is also recommended indefinitely to help with possible mental disabilities.
